Here are some definitions of dpi - It is really not a matter of
size.
dpi: Definition: A measure of the resolution of a printer
is called DPI or dots per inch. It properly refers to the dots of ink or
toner used by an imagesetter, laser printer, or other printing device to
print your text and graphics. In general, the more dots, the better and
sharper the image. DPI is printer resolution.
Dots per inch also describe printer resolution. Not only do we refer to
the number of lines per inch, we also refer to the actual number of dots
that can be printed per inch.
The higher the DPI, once again, the smoother both photographs and
line art will appear.
If an image is created at 72dpi, the image when printed at any size
other than the original will appear fuzzy or jagged. It is really not a
good choice for printing when you want a clear image. It is
however, the perfect dpi for the Internet and Web Site Graphics.
